The Housing and Development Board will have to appoint a new CEO after Rear- Admiral Lui Tuck Yew resigned from the post with effect from April 11.

...took over as HDB's CEO in June 2005

...consolidated its housing authority role and missions

...RADM Lui had reviewed some major housing polices including housing options for the elderly and low income families.

During his tenure, RADM Lui also rolled out initiatives like the pilot Design, Build and Sell Scheme where the private sector is called upon to develop public housing projects, thereby offering more variety to home buyers.

He also played a part in the speeding up of the government's Lift Upgrading Programme.

Something fishy? Pun intended, after all he is the "rear" admiral, ex-Navy bloke who's more accustomed to helming a ship and steering it. Why was this man put in charge of the HDB? He didn't leave due to "personal reasons" or "family commitments" or for "corporate restructuring" as is the case in the marjority of press statements. Instead, our man resigned. Gets me thinking though, what scandal or disagreement would have got a man to resign.

And just less than a year on the job. 10 months actually. I don't know about CEOs lasting just 10 months unless their severance package was way way into the millions.

Btw, housing for the low income and elderly is still a major problem with no respite in sight. Probably why he only "reviewed" and didn't "solve" the issue entirely.

The laugh inducing statement? "Speeding up the LUP", hahahhahahhahaha. Come on man, we all know what speeds up upgrading. Elections baby. I make you lift, you gimme vote.

Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew hopes Singaporeans can emulate the American spirit of self-help ... instead of looking to the government for assistance.

US Ambassador to Singapore, Patricia Herbold, said: "... Singapore American School nor Singapore rested on its laurels. They consistently looked to the future and planned for tomorrow. Both have been blessed with exceptional leaders who have grasped opportunities that have resulted in continuous growth and adaptation."

...But unlike Americans who get together and set up their own international schools, Singaporeans write to their government and say 'please set up such schools for us'."

Moral of the story?
Progress Package is not gonna come every year. Don't dream Singaporeans. Help yourself. Be entrepreneurs and pay more taxes. But still don't look to us for help.

Set up school? Knn, you commoners don't need school. We only want the top 5 ranked ones in existence. The rest of you should instead pick up useful skills like air con repair and concrete breaking. Will be helpful in fighting with "foreign talent" for the jobs.

Watch "Why My Vote Matters — A Dialogue with the Minister Mentor." telecast tonight on Channel NewsAsia at 8pm and 11.30 pm.
[The group, which included seven journalists, two students and a professional, questioned Mr Lee on whether the political playing field in Singapore was level. One even asked whether the PAP was "power crazy".]
